Hi Jonathan...

I imagine there's a LOT of places ya'd rather be than logging onto a
Parkinson's Disease online support group in order to help your mother, but I
commend you for taking that big step and joining this List. You'll find this
to be a warm, caring, supportive, and VERY knowledgeable group...

Before commenting 'bout your mom's condition, it'd be MOST helpful to us if
you'd let us know how LONG she's had PD symptoms and how old she is (dementia
in a 50 year old verses, say, an 85 year old can be a whole 'nother thing!).
How long has mom been under the care of a physician and is this MD a
neurologist and/or a movement disorder specialist?

Also, it's important for us to know the dosages of mom's drugs and the
frequency she takes 'em. Personally, I've never heard of Zipproxa or Prosom.
It's important we know if your mother's daily intake of Sinamet has been or
is being lowered as the Mirapex dosage is slowly raised, as that is what
should be done when using both Sinamet AND Mirapex together.

I believe with this more complete information you'll be provided with not only
a clearer picture of what to expect in the future - at least Parkinson's-wise.

DO keep in mind that this disease progresses and acts differently in each
individual. We share a FEW common symptoms but ALSO each have any number of
symptoms unique to some or only a very few..

NOW.... take a deep breath, and unclench your hands <grin> and know that
you're amongst friends.

My mother has Parkinson's, and we are new to this group. Right now my
questions mainly have to do with what to expect in the progression of my
mother's condition. My brother, who is with her on the West Coast believes
she is at the end stage, after a dramatic downturn that has happened within
the last few weeks. I can believe it talking to her on the phone, as she
is profoundly demented - talks and talks but is virtually incoherent. I
understand that in addition to Sinemet the drugs she is taking include
Mirapex, Zippaxa, Paxil and Prosom.

You know, at least in the condition she is in at the moment she is not
experiencing a lot of fear and anxiety, which she has in the past [which I
associate with the "internal tremors"], so may be this is preferable. But
what should we expect in the months and years ahead. I've heard her doctor
say that all her organ systems are healthy, and she could go on like this
for fifteen years! Yikes!

I'de appreciate all responses,

Jonathan
