My husband and I visited a new assisted living center and took a tour. From
what I understood was that in the assisted section---the center interviewed
you and based the assistance on needs. I believe the fee was judged
accordingly (not sure about this) to one's needs. It could be with pouring
meds for the day, reminding one to take them at the right times, wheeling you
to the dining area if need be. The nice thing for single pwps to me would be
the three meals in the dining room, the meeting of new friends, joining in
cards, scrabble, bridge, etc.
These centers can be quite expensive. Nice thing for a couple is that the
center makes the decision when it is time to move on to the NH section if
needed. For caregivers this could take the burden of making the decision
yourself as I recently had to do. Remember how Howard's wife was in the NH
section and he remained in the apartment there. He could visit her at will,
have his meals with her, etc. as she was near being taken very good care of.
