"So why not provide a place for woodorkers to market their craft and it would allow this Parkie to do the things that make me happy. Does this sound like a good idea or just a crazy dream? I would appreciate some feedback." If it's thought out carefully. You have business permits and taxes, accounting to deal with. Why not make it consignment, where you get a percent of the price of other people's work? Why just wood? Have more wood, but include other media - do you want it higher class, art, nice gift type??. Is there much competition - gift shops in the area? Do the people in the area have the income to buy items like this or are they just "squeezing by" and can't afford extra non essential purchases? Bird houses and similar items can be made faster and can be sold for a price that isn't too bad for the time put into making them. Items like this are more affordable to buy and might sell OK. If you spend several weeks to carefully turn, chisel, (whatever) and sand how many times to finish, can you get the several hundred dollars that you've put into the work (time)? This is always the artists' problem. The artist has spent $200-$500 worth of time into making it, and everybody says it's beautiful and wants one, but can't afford to pay that price for it. This is not from experience. We've been mulling this over for a while - how to sell artwork successfully. (without actually trying to do it, need more nerve <grin> Marge Green [log in to unmask]
