Dear List-Family, including Tami.... I turned off my bedroom light a half-hour ago (it's now 3 a.m.), said "G'nite" to Scooter 'n Buzzy-cats as they snuggled next to me, and prepared to drift off to sleep. Only I didn't sleep! I didn't sleep and knew I WOULDN'T sleep till I came downstairs, cranked up my PC, logged on, and somehow share my thoughts with ya. As I lay there in the darkness, my mind was rumbling around in my head full of thoughts about a message I posted here to Tami earlier this evening. Because you've all been privy to the words between Tami and myself over the past coupla weeks I'd like to apologize to this group, and to Tami - tho to each for different reasons. After being in a systems operator's position for 6 years, counting my 2 year stint on MSN, I have seen it ALL when it comes to online sales persons. I've seen every single sales pitch and trade-related buzz-word imaginable pass thru my online domains in that 6 years. My every instinct AND training is to prevent them from bringing their contemporary version of the old-time traveling medicine show to this place I so greatly value, doing their "pitch," to what THEY see as "local yocals" and "yahoos" who're easy marks (that's US! ) <rueful smile>. AND _ I _ see a number of ya here as being surprisingly naive and often desperate for help. When it comes to you against one of these "snake oil sales pros," my every instinct to immediately "protect" you, 'cause I would so hate to see any of you "taken" When Tami came roaring into this list like a tornado goin' full bore (which is another way of saying she had a lotta energy!) <a rare commodity around here> <grin>, AND when I saw her using just about every one of the buzz-words that cause those of us who're tuned in to watch for and to react on sight, well, I DID react! I reacted just like a mother hen with one chick! <blushing> Sooo, my naive AND not so naive friends, in the future I'll prolly STILL call your attention to someone fitting that "medicine show salesman's" profile, but Then I'll back off. I'm not your mom, and you are all adults. (except for Ken, of course!) <Grinning and ducking>. Tami, I should have not written to you in the manner I did (tho I still would have posted SOME word of warning to the group due to those buzz words). I know I have great writing skills when I care to use them (tho I coast here on the List), and after 6 years working as a certified paralegal prior to working online, I learned how to use words as weapons. In fact, I can NOT use certain words and get the same effect!! When I saw you came only from EMOTION, well, I knew I could verbally use you for virtual cannon fodder if I wanted to - just by my knowledge and command of words, plus that legal background is always there, too. I don't LIKE "playing" with folks emotions, Tami. And I didn't like playing with yours. I TRIED not to.... (with only moderate success). THAT wasn't ' t fair to you, I think... . I had you at a disadvantage.. and for that I apologize 'cause this ISN'T a war! And IF I decide to mow someone down in the future, I'll just rent a Sherman Tank to do the job! <giggle> NOW I've REALLY gonna get to sleep, 'cause I have a PD Support Group meeting in the early afternoon, and I'm going to be SOOO tired.
