Alastair -
I appreciate the work you are doing in researching the possible treatment
of PD by electric and/or magnetic pulses (am not sure I am labelling that
correctly).
Please, continue to keep us informed. I enjoy and learn everytime I read
your posts, and I thought you might be interested in a study going on at
Madigan Army Medical Center at Tacoma, WA where they are using pulsing
electromagetic fields to treat migraines. They are using the PEMF (pulsing
electromagnetic field) generators that they have used for years to enhance the
rate of healing of non-union fractures. The PEMF units produce pulsed high-
frequency, high peak power electromagnetic energy at a frequency of 27.12 MHZ
in 65 microsecond bursts occurring in 600 pulse per second sequences at 975
peak watts. ( I say that as if I know what I'm talking about. I don't. I
just thought it might make some sense to you.) They discovered the effect on
migraines when they were treating a patient for a knee condition and the
patient reported that her weekly migraines disappeared when she started the
PEMF treatment. I found it quite interesting that they exposed the migraneurs
to the PEMFs over the inner thigh (not the head)--and it is working. I can
hardly wait to have this available to me.
If interested in more information you may contact: LTC Richard A. Sherman,
Ph.D., Department of Clinical Investigation, Madigan Army Medical Center,
Tacoma, WA 98431.
Keep your interesting ideas coming. I would love to have someone discover
that PD could be treated successfully with electromagnetic fields.
