Allan, In the Mirapex study the participants were divided into three groups: those receiving 4.5 milligrams, those receiving 5.25 milligrams, and the third group receiving 6.0 milligrams total per day. The higher the dosage, the more side effects there were. Although most of the participants in the 6.0 mg group had no adverse side effects, the increase in benefits was not sufficient to counter the averse side effects of those who did experience them. That is why the manufacturer is recommending 4.5 milligrams as the normal dosage. Going to a higher dosage should be safe for majority of people.
