 Allan,

In the Mirapex study the participants were divided into three groups:
those receiving 4.5 milligrams, those receiving 5.25 milligrams, and
the third group receiving 6.0 milligrams total per day. The higher
the dosage, the more side effects there were. Although most of the
participants in the 6.0 mg group had no adverse side effects, the
increase in benefits was not sufficient to counter the averse side
effects of those who did experience them. That is why the
manufacturer is recommending 4.5 milligrams as the normal dosage.
Going to a higher dosage should be safe for majority of people. You
just need to exercise the caution you do when increasing any other
medication.
