Don, prayer is good and keep on. I used to work in a cancer hospital-most of the time the patients just want someone to listen--especially someone they trust. They know that you can't change things for them, but you can say you are sorry and continue listening--what ever you do, don't desert an old friend. I have a good friend who will die of cancer-she knows it and I know it but I call her frequently and listen if she wants to say anything about her cancer and if not we just chat. I will not desert her-ever -Years ago there was a group of young women --where I lived then-we have kept in touch with each other and over the years people become ill and some have died--including my friends husband. Someday we will all be gone, but until then we keep in touch- i hope this helps you-nothing can stop the pain of loseing an old friend, but then people will listen to you.
