Esther - wheelchair sizing is important! The occupational therapist at the NH recommended brand/model/size for us (some physical therapists are knowledgeable about "fitting" wheelchairs and walkers, but maybe not all of them). You could probably also go to a store with Abe and see what the staff suggests. Good chairs are very expensive, but worth it. Ask for a used one! Also, I THINK Medicare will reimburse at least part of the cost for a chair prescribed by a doctor for someone who lives at home. (They seem to think that folks in nursing homes can make do with the cheap standard issue.) mary
