I'm not sure it's such a good idea to bring up this contentious issue again.
I just feel compelled to respond.  I personally think Ali IS the greatest -
but I also don't think he was always the greatest.  There was a time when he
was a racist and a traitor to his Country; this is, in the eyes of some of
us Americans.  To others he was always on the right side of every issue.  To
some, perhaps Joe Frazier is one, he is still a racist and a traitor. Most
of it has nothing at all to do with Muhammad Ali.  It mostly comes down to
politics, and OLD OLD politics at that.

I think we should celebrate Ali's really wonderful contributions to so many
aspects of society - far more than those of Joe Fraizer?  I don't know.
Probably.  I haven't followed his life, though.  He had his brain beaten in
too, he's probably not the most sensitive person around, nor the  brightest.
But he is an American Hero as well.  He did win an Olympic Gold Medal, and
that should earn him some respect.  I may be alone here on these views, and
I probably should shut up.  And I will.  Thanks for letting me get this off
my chest.
