I have been off the list for awhile now so forgive me if i have missed anything. I would like to repeat a question I posted a few months ago. My mother was scheduled to have a pallidotomy through northern CA Kaiser, in San Rafael in Sept. last year. She had already been through all but the last of the pre-op appts. Everyone involved had invested alot in the procedure. We were all very happy with the medical team up there (we live in southern CA.) But in Sept Kaiser stepped in and announced the procedure was being moved to Sacramento and the schedule was up in the air. Well, even now we have had no notice, no letter, no phone calls giving any definite plans. It is one of the most frustrating and infuriating situations. My father made many phone calls up north, but the nurses say only that they don't know anything either. Meanwhile we found out that Kaiser would pay to have the procedure done at USC in Los ANgeles. This is close to my parents, more convenient. However so far we know so little about the program there. After so much involvement up north, so much preparation for getting through the pallidotomy, in both a physically and emotionally supportive atmosphere, i fear the situation in LA may be very impersonal. I asked the group previously if anyone knew anything about the program at USC. I ask once again, as no one seemed to before. Now it seems more imminent, with mri appts. on the horizen. The surgeon will be Dr. Dogali, formerly of UCIrvine. THe nurses up in northern CA didn't know anything either, but said go for it, as they didn't know when they would be able to help. I want to be supportive of my mom, but i don't feel very confident with the situation in LA as of yet. debbie [log in to unmask]
