        I have the answer to your question about Greek mythology.
    Once Odysseus was past the danger of the Sirens, his ship had to
pass between two cliffs in a strait that had the whirlpool of Charybdis.
In trying to avoid the whirlpool the ship sailed too close to the
opposite cliff where the monster Scylla seized six sailors.
