***********************************************************

Good morning from Portland, Maine, friends on the List,

On Tue, 17 Feb 1998 10:05:33 -0500 "Corson, Linda" [log in to unmask]
writes about her dad, Bill:

  "Dear Listfriends / Cyberfamily-

" I remember Alan Bonander giving an eloquent presentation on the need
to keep carbidopa intake below 200mg per day, but I don't recall the side
effects of too much carbidopa...." <SNIP>

Linda bravely continues, in reference to his hallucinations: ".... If
adjusting his PD meds can make his final days a bit more
clear-headed...." <SNIP>

I believe that the "quality of life," for MILLIONS of us PWP's (people
with Parkinson's), and our care-providing families and friends, might be
vastly improved if we understood how to regulate CARBIDOPA levels in our
bloodstreams. In the United States alone, we have many different options
offered to us, by using combinations of at least 4 different
carbidopa/levodopa pills (for example, blue 10/100's, pink
football-shaped: 25/100 CR's {continuous release} , yellow 25/100's and
cafe-au-lait, or coffee-colored, football-shaped 50/200 CR's).

I would like to expand on Linda's question about her dad, and
identify 7 common, troubling, SPECIFIC side-effects. Some of these have
been mentioned in the last few weeks of our correspondence on our List.

    The 7 peak-dose side-effects (P) or end-of-dose side-effects (E)
are:

      END of DOSE:

       (E1) the end-of-dose sweats,
       (E2) the rapid tremors (Marling's "internal whim-whams" / Ida's
"cold turkey"),
(E3) the freezing spells( sudden lack of movement),
(E4) the sudden feeling of cold (my "hypothermia"), and pain in
the shins, feet, toes and hands and fingers.

        PEAK DOSE:

        (P1) sweats
        (P2) hallucinations (like BIll's)
        (P3) abnormal movements (dyskinesias)

Would ANYONE be able to share ideas on the problems caused
specifically by either too high, or too low, circulating CARBIDOPA
levels, and the associated Sinemet and Madopar pill strengths?
