Laura Mitchell's thoughtful article, posted here by Bob Fink, on legalizing physician-assisted suicide, suggests that it will not only raise a tempting option for greedy HMO managers, but over time will actually discourage costly research that might someday find a cure for the most intractable diseases. Those suggestions are striking but not totally persuasive, and I'd expect some debate from an articulate group such as this one. Seen none so far: what's wrong, too hot to handle? Joe -- J. R.
