In reply to K-F Etzold's question about where to find Fava Beans: It took some good sleuthing for me to find them but a friend from Lebanon told me they are a staple in the Mid-Eastern diet and can be found at Mid-Eastern deli's and restaurants. Health food stores have them sometimes but they are expensive - about $5/pound. I found them at a deli for about $.40/lb. They are dried and must be soaked several hours which makes them swell to twice their size. The large ones are about the size of lima beans and must have the shells taken off after soaking. The smaller ones are like peas and the shells are edible. They taste a little like garbanza beans, my Lebanese friend gave me some recipes, adding lemon, tomatoes & cheese. They're not too bad but I could live without them. I could also eat them every day if they really helped but I couldn't tell that they do. There are recipes on the net if you have access to a search engine. I did find some in cans at a grocery store and they were ready to eat. Happy Eating - Carol Phelps [log in to unmask]
