Diane... I had a very successful unilateral (one side only) pallidotomy
performed at Loma Linda University Hospital (in Southern California, USA) Oct.
24, 1994. And yes.... ya DO need to continue taking Sinemet after the
surgery, however, many persons can get by with a much lesser dose of the drug.

A coupla words of caution: Pallidotomy is NOT a cure and each individual
Parkie responds to the surgery in their own unique way. But overall, I
believe most folks having this surgery benefit from it to some degree,
depending upon the type of PD they have, their age and general physical
condition (i.e., a 60 year old would prolly do better than an 85 year old)

ALSO..... it is the utmost importance one uses a neurosurgeon who has
performed LOTS of successful pallidotomies and who can refer you to PD
patients whom he has operated on in the past for you to contact for
references. Ya sure don't want a neuro who's LEARNING how to do this
procedure messing 'round in YOUR brain! YIKES!!!

I live in the U.K. and would really be interested in talking to anyone who has
had a Pallidotomy.

Do you still rely on Sinnemet after the operation
