Chelation is:

1. The removal of heavy metals (such as lead, arsenic, copper,
silver, etc.) from the body using substances which form a compound
with these metals and then are excreted. Chelation is (sometimes)
useful to remove heavy metals which have been ingested, such as from
eating lead paint. The "downside" is that chelation also "mobilizes"
the metals and can in some cases cause the poisoning to become worse.

2. Chelation has been proposed by some as a treatment for cancer and
other "dread diseases". There is no evidence that chelation is of
*any* value in the treatment of anything other than major poisoning
by heavy metals; and, even in such cases, newer methods, such as
dialysis, are often more effective. Chelation as an "alternative
therapy" for cancer, Parkinson's disease, or most other conditions is
worthless, costly, and usually designed for the profit of the
proponents.

Best,

Bob
