Dr. Patrick Kelly, Chairman of Neurosurgery @ NYU Medical Center has received FDA approval to implant pallidal stimulators in 7 patients who have had a unilateral pallidotomy and are now experiencing sypmtoms on the opposite side of their bodies. There is an increased risk of patients developing speech difficulties when a bilateral pallidotomy is performed. I would be happy to provide additional information to anyone who is interested.
