Camilla.... To "boot up" your PC is to turn the on CPU (a CPU is the part that does that actual "computing"). The monitor running while the CPU's off won't activate a virus *IF* there is a virus) When it's been off for a while and ya turn it on it's known as a "cold" boot. If your system's been up and running, pushing the "restart" button will give ya a "warm boot." Either way, if your PC is turned off at any time on the 6th, and you turn it on (boot it up), you'll have permitted the virus to attack your system - *IF* YOUR SYSTEM HAS *ALREADY* BEEN INVADED BY A VIRUS. The virus won't suddenly just up and spontaneously, magically appear in your system on the 6th if your system doesn't ALREADY have the virus in it BY the 6th. Hope this clears things up for ya... (Not a computer expert--don't even play one on TV !)Barb--when you say to "NOT turn your computer off AT ALL between March 5th and 7th, cause the virus can't strike if you don't BOOT UP on the 6th" I need to know the exact definition of "BOOT UP"--does that only take place when I turn the COMPUTER itself on, or do you also mean I can't turn the MONITOR off either? Please take pity and explain in plain English--and onlist, 'cause I may not be the only one who did not get it :-) Waiting with bated breath for help to arrive!
