Before changing your = medication, diet or other factor relevant to your treatment, you should = consult your physician. I came across the following information in the Reader's Digest Medical = Question and Answer Book, 1989 edition, while I was looking up something = totally unrelated to PD. It refers to MAOI (MonoAmine Oxidase = Inhibitor). One of the selective MAO-B inhibitors, in use for PD, is = selegiline (Alzene; Carbex; Deprenyl; Eldeprine; Eldepryl; Jumex; = Movergan; Plurimen). "... avoid all foods containing tyramine, which is related to = adrenaline and has similar though milder actions. Such foods include = liver, smoked sausage and similar cold cuts, sardines, anchovies, = pickled herring, all cheeses except cream and cottage, yoghurt, = chocolates, and certain ripe fruits such as bananas and avocados.... = also refrain from drinking beer and wine." If you are on selegeline, and are concerned about this, I urge you to = talk it over with the physician treating your PD. Frankly, I am thinking of giving up selegeline! What, life without = wine, cheese and chockies? Forget it! <grin> Jim ------------------------------------------------- Jim Slattery - [log in to unmask] =20 Central West PD Web http://www.bec.net.au/~cwpdg/ ------------------------------------------------- ------=_NextPart_000_0048_01BD45E1.7CD2F480 Content-Type: text/html; charset="utf-8" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD W3 HTML//EN"> <HTML> <HEAD> <META content=3D"text/html; charset=3Dutf-8" http-equiv=3DContent-Type> <META content=3D'"MSHTML 4.71.1712.3"' name=3DGENERATOR> </HEAD> <BODY bgColor=3D#ffffff> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000>IMPORTANT NOTE: Nothing in this message is = medical=20 advice, nor is anything to be taken as being medical advice. = Before=20 changing your medication, diet or other factor relevant to your = treatment, you=20 should consult your physician.</FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000></FONT> </DIV> <DIV><FONT color=3D#000000>I came across the following information in = the Reader's=20 Digest Medical Question and Answer Book, 1989 edition, while I was = looking up=20 something totally unrelated to PD.
