Hi

The comments about reading difficulites has finally prompted to contact
the list after lurking for several months. The thought of a chubby 70
year old hanging out in a trench coat and dark glasses tickles my fancy.

In the U.S. the Library of Congress has a program called the Library for
the Blind and Physically Handicapped. It is available in all fifty
states and is free to all who qualify. The library supplies the
necessary equipment (tape recorder or record player) as well as an
extensive collection of reading material. The form is available at your
library and may be signed either by your doctor or the librarian. The
only requrement is the inability to read because of physical problems.

You will be instructed how to choose your reading material ( books,
magazines, etc.) and these will be mailed to you in a special mailer
that requires no postage for return. You may request specific books or
a type of book (science fiction, mystery, history, etc.) as well as a
schedule (1 a month, 3 a week, whatever suits) You don't even have to
go to the mailbox for returns because the mailman will pick them up at
your home.

For those of us who love to read it's a return to a wider world that had
seemed lost forever.

An example of your tax dollar really doing good work.
