Dear Marling, "Are you in counselling? Perhaps you should be." Of course I've been in counselling. Who in their right mind hasn't? AND thank you for giving me the opportunity to ask you a question that is central to my suggestion that people with PD or many ofher chronic illnesses are less likely to suicide. Why are you still with us here on this earth? As your question to me was not intended nor was it taken as hostile neither is my question. In your recent posting to Bruce you mentioned that you tried to commit suicide but failed [ and for that I'm grateful ]. Have you asked yourself the question; WHY? Did it ever occur to you that you were put on this earth for some special reason. That perhaps through your illness you will make a significant contribution to your fellow residents of this here planet. Have you thought that perhaps you are more self confident, have more self respect, believe that you are tougher than the average person. Are you not impressed with your own courage in getting up every morning? I was talking with a friend [ a psychiatrist.....Yes, psychiatrists have friends and so do I ] a couple of months ago and he made this eloquent pitch for illness being the primary motivation for greatness; not health, not wealth nor money but illness and he gave me several examples. I agree with him. Not a single one of us would have chosen PD as a fellow traveler but can you honestly say you disagree with my friend's position? As to your comment about 40% of PWP being depressed I can assure you the figure is 100% .Each of us mournes the loss of our body as it use to be. So it would be natural to experience depression as a part of the normal greiving process but I doubt that many of them chose suicide as their final posting BY the way, Why do you think I need counselling? You never said. Darned if I know my best george [log in to unmask]
