Kalamazoo Medieval Congress, Sessions 369 and 423:
Saturday 9 May 1998, 1.30 pm and 3.30 pm

Medieval Drama: Latin and the Vernacular: Texts and Databases I and
II - A Hands-on Workshop

Waldo Library Room 1070 (Electronic Classroom)
_______________

All scholars working in, or teaching, medieval drama and theatre (and
others) are invited to this paired session. The resources being presented will
be done with the particular, practical interests and needs of drama scholars
in mind, both in their research and teaching functions. The resources
demonstrated shall be: (i) a database of current literature on the
subject - the {International Medieval Bibliography}; (ii) a full-text
database which will allow scriptural and apocryphal source
identifications, and searches for patristic and scholastic exegesis on biblical
persons and themes, namely the {Cetedoc Library of Christian Latin
Texts}; (iii) an image database based on a unique photographic archive of
{English Parish Churches} (produced by Phillip Lindley and Alex
Moseley, University of Leicester), offering easy access to images of medieval
and early modern stained-glass windows, misericords, monumental
brasses, decorated capitals and suchlike; and (iv) and the image database
of {Medieval Wallpaintings in Danish Parish Churches} (produced
by Axel Bolvig, University of Copenhagen) which is fully catalogued and
which allows searches for "daily life" topics of importance to
drama and theatre scholars: images of shoes, devils and so forth.

The presentation will be led by Simon Forde (Brepols Publishers)
and Alex Moseley (University of Leicester), and the hands-on workshop
supported by these and others, including Tom Amos (Waldo Library,
WMU). No previous familiarity with these databases, or computers in
general, is required.

Since the number of terminals are finite you are strongly encouraged
to reserve your place on these workshops by emailing Tom Amos
([log in to unmask]) in advance of the congress.
