Sinclair Lewis wrote a novel that was, in the end, really about suicide and how selfish it is. It was a very powerful book. I don't remember it's name (perhaps someone here does). The main character was a grocer who in the end walks into the town lake and slits his wrists. The message not to do it stays with you; I think it may have helped me snap out of it quickly 3 years ago. Sorry I can' remember its name, but I don't think he wrote all that many books.
