My father spent over 20 years in textile manufacturing, supervising the operation of a facility where synthetic fabrics were bonded and dyed. The various processes involved strong chemicals - the one thing I remember most from visiting him at the office was the odor. I have suspected for some time that the exposure to these chemicals could be a factor in his PD. This weekend, I found out that the man who was his boss also has PD. Both men are of similar age, ethnic and socio-economic background, and worked in the same building. Considering that the rate of occurrence of PD is about 15 cases per 100,000 population, I have a hard time believing that this is sheer coincidence. A small sample, but an interesting finding.
