It’s time to submit your nomination for the:

National Parkinson Foundation’s 5th Annual
"SIDNEY DORROS MEMORIAL AWARD"

First diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease (PD) in 1962, Sidney Dorros was
one of the most noted Parkinson patient advocates. He helped establish and
was the first President of the first Parkinson Society of Greater
Washington (one of the first self-help groups in the U.S. for people with
Parkinson’s disease); co-organized the first national convention of the
Parkinson Support Groups of America; wrote the first ever autobiography
published in 1981 of what it is like to live with PD, titled - PARKINSON’S:
A PATIENT’S VIEW ; co-authored with his wife Donna, a series of essays on
coping with Parkinson’s published by NPF. In addition to all the above, Mr.
Dorros and his wife Donna spent 10 years of their lives lecturing all over
the country about how to cope with PD.

Sidney Dorros passed away due to complications of Parkinson disease on July
22, 1993.

Sidney was an inspiration to everyone effected by Parkinson’s disease. He
was a role model, a fighter and an educator. It only seems right that his
memory be honored and kept alive by awarding others for their extraordinary
achievements and work with Parkinson’s disease support groups.

Established in 1994 by the National Parkinson Foundation, the "Sidney
Dorros Memorial Award" annually recognizes an individual who has gone above
and beyond the call of duty for Parkinson’s disease. Nominees may include
support group and chapter members or volunteers. The winner of this award
will receive $5,000.00 to use in whatever way they choose.
