Sue, you did not mention the drugs she is taking.  About a year and a half
ago, my mother was put in a nursing home (NH) because of confusion.  One of
the things that the NS wants is trouble free, quiet "clients", so they put
her on a variety of drugs that were supposed to "help" her ( read "become
trouble free for the NH".  She became totally debilitated; could not
partake in any activities of daily living.  Was almost comatose, would not
talk, move, maintain eye contact, etc.  We suspected drug problems.
After many go rounds, we were finally able to get her off Haldol and onto
Zoloft.  The change was remarkable;  she is able to joke, talk, take
exercise, and take part in living.  She is mostly back to the way she was
when she first entered the NH; confused, very absent minded, but back among
the living.
