I find it disturbing to hear conjecture about the cause of Muhammad Ali's
Parkinson's disease, Parkinsonism or whatever it is that he suffers from.
Perhaps he got it from boxing. Perhaps he was genetically inclined.
Perhaps he got Parkinson's from a combination of the two. Perhaps he
doesn't have Parkinson's at all. (I have heard a statistic that of the
individuals who were diagnosed with PD and willed their brains to
scientific research - roughly 25% did not have classic PD at all.)

How many of us are expert neurologists with access to sophisticated tests
that may, or may not, determine the nature of Ali's condition?

What is the difference how Ali got Parkinson's? Is it any more comforting
to know that he 'did it to himself by choosing a risky profession'?

The fact is he endures public scrutiny, opens up his private life and gives
of his time to help others with PD and try to prevent its occurence in the
future. If he is willing to do this for us I don't care if he has PD,
Parkinsonism, Boxer's Dementia, brain stem injuries or a really bad head
cold; he is on our side and I am grateful to him.
