This may not be relevant, but I remember being told by a senate staffer many
years ago that they sort the mail on any given topic into piles and the
biggest pile gets the senator's attention.  She said we should use thick paper
and fold it several times.  She also said to keep the letters short -- a
couple of paragraphs.  Anything longer gets no attention (the short ones don't
get much).

I wrote my congressman (Joe Moakley, Mass.) 10 days ago and have had no reply.
It may be worth repeating the advice of someone else on the List -- regular
mail gets more attention than e-mail.
