hi jane;

it doesn't sound like vanity to me
traditionally, women in our society have been judged on their 'looks'
we have all been brainwashed into this mode of thinking
and it's hard to stop

>In the past two years since my deep brain stimulation surgery
>I have been gaining weight.

why on earth would a medical professional
react in that way to a change in your physical condition
which [to me at least] sounds like it relates directly to your surgery?

>I am now eating about half as much as before surgery

nothing to forgive, jane
i have heard of other parkies gaining weight after surgery
and it makes complete sense to me

the parkies who have surgery
tend to be severely symptomatic - it's only logical

the severe symptoms of this movement disorder of ours
include uncontrolled movement such as tremours and dyskinesia
and uncontrolled tightness or muscle rigidity

in either case
our muscles are undergoing much more extra 'strain' than a non-parkie,
which sounds to me like the equivalent of
a whole lot of involuntary exercise
day in and day out
hence, possibly, the weight loss problem you mention

so, if surgery eliminates or reduces this involuntary exercise
voila, a perfect [to me] recipe for gaining weight

add this profound change in muscular lifestyle
to the thermo-regulatory problems a lot of us have
and it seems to me that profound metabolism changes
would have to be the norm
not the exception

>Any sympathy, suggestions or common complaints
>are needed to take to my DR.to reinforce that
>paladotomy and DBS may cause serious weight gain.

if my logic is incorrect, i'd love to hear it
if not, i doubt that reinforcement is needed

just another 'gotcha' on the pd roller coaster ride
