perhaps we should use the opportunity to support this doubling of the NIH
budget.

The 3/98 CBO budget projections show more than doubling of spending for
Medicare.  the 1998 expenditure is $214-billion and the 2008 expenditure is
projected to be $448-billion. that is more than doubling in 10 years.

the doubling of the $14-billion current NIH spending to $28-billion by 2003
should be advocated -- with high probability that advances in medical
treatment brought about by expending more in research would save having to
more than double the spending to Medicare.

advocate wise spending!  double the NIH funding in 5 years!     ron vetter
