Joan, part of the problem stems from the fact that it is not the most pleasant
job, so you often have to hire people who may feel they are not being paid
enough to do the job. They may feel like they are entitled to take things if
the patient won't miss them, OR they bring in friends who steal! This is a
very sad commentary on human behaviour. We never had anything stolen, most of
the helpers were reccommended by others. One of the last group, Ivan, is like
a magic Genie, he has helped us move pianos, came to clean my house so well,
we were amazed, and was always ready to help my father, in every way. he had
friends who would come on the weekend, when he could not. He works as an
embalmer, which is obviously a part time position. He was always friendly,
usually early, or at least on time.If I won the Lotto, I would love to have
him work for me as a butler! If anyone in the Fort Lauderdale Fl area needs a
helper, I could reccommend him highly. I did not mean to lapse into a
commercial!
My mother keeps important papers locked in a special file cabinet, even if no
one is around. Once something was missing, but t turned out that my nieces
ages 3 and 5 at the time, had put it behind a couch! I am glad you have
gotten luckier as time passed. KenB
