I recently had an opportunity to catch up on back issues of the READER'S
DIGEST. On page 117 of the April 1997 edition there was an intersting
article on PD. The following is an excerpt :-

"Current therapies replace or mimic lost dopamine with orally
administered drugs but these medications lead to fluctuating levels of
the drug in the body, and fluctuating periods of response. Now after
three years of research, Virginia Commonwealth phyicians are optomistic
that a new skin patch could be used to treat Parkinson's more
effectivelly. The patch secretes a steady stream of dopaminelike
medication into the bolldstream. Neurologist Vincent Calabrese points
out that his study was small, the results preliminary, and that more
testing is needed. He adds that the patch could be an important
alternative in the treatment of Parkinson's. "

Although the article is a year old it seems like a new procedure which
should be followed up. Has anyone heard of any recent news on the
subject ???
