PACT (Parkinsonians and Caregivers Together) had their monthly meeting in Denton, TX, on Wednesday, 27 May, and their speakers were Diane Antwine, RN, from the local hospital, and her mother, Joyce Holliday. Joyce, who has had two pallidotomies, one on each side, came in from Houston, TX, to attend the meeting. A highlight of the meeting was when Ms. Holliday showed the group her cane, which has a bright red cable tie affixed to the bottom of it and sticking out about a foot to the left. She holds the cane in her right hand, so that the cable tie is directly ahead of her, across her path. She says that this gives her the reference that she needs so that, when otherwise frozen, she can walk. This would appear to be a simple solution to the walking problem, and others have probably used it before. But it was a novelty to the Denton group, and probably worth a reminder to the list as well. ________________________________________________________________ Arthur Hirsch {} [log in to unmask] {} Lewisville, TX {} 972-434-2377 (nickname on instant mail, ICQ, and chat programs is cutterson) ________________________________________________________________ Always Remember This: Happiness Is Right, So Choose Happiness ________________________________________________________________
