I flubbed in not signing or copying this article so that you will understand
why I am concerned. I was thinking of having my students use the site, but
would not want them to see the 500,000 number.

Thanks for checking for me. I have a newer version of the publication
from the Society for Neuroscience (1997) and they still list the number of
PD cases as 500,000. Perhaps this has to do with the definition of PD and
they are using more conservative numbers?
