Acetylcholine (ACh), Dopamine (DA), Norepinephrine (NE), and Serotonin (5-HT) are all neurotransmitters that we know play an important role in Parkinson's Disease. Significant clinical data have also demonstrated that the premature neuronal re-uptake of Serotonin is indicated in BOTH depression and panic disorder. Hence, "serotonin re-uptake inhibitors" --SRIs -- such as Prozac, Paxil, etc. are indicated for the treatment of both disorders. (visit the Paxil web site @ http://www.panicattack.com). Many YOPD patients, including myself, are on a pharmacological regimen that includes an SRI. In closing, I STRONGLY suggest to anyone that has been diagnosed with PD that they at least consider a consultation with a competent psychiatrist. Martin K.
