hi all

i've been mulling about the recent discussion in re 'foreigners'

i was struck by the fact that of all the different issues raised
the one that jumped out at me was
the idea expressed by a few:
"let's not argue"

my first re-action was
denial
'who's arguing?'

my second re-action was
defensive
"why not?"

my third re-action was
more thoughtful
"are we/they arguing?"
"is that the way it appears to others?"
"if it is truly arguing, what is 'wrong' with arguing?"
"is arguing a 'bad' thing or a 'good' thing?"
"or is it something else?"

in the concise oxford dictionary
the verb to argue is defined as:
1. to exchange views or opinions, especially heatedly or contentiously
2. to indicate; maintain by reasoning
3. to reason
4. to treat by reasoning
5. to persuade

i found the exchange, the sharing, of our ideas, views, opinions
interesting and en-light-ening
and feel that our list-family would be the poorer without it

weird?
i dunno,
just mulling
