Any, or all of them, could be. I believe that for most people, it is due first to a genetic predisposition to get PD (or any other disease for that matter), but that probably accounts for about 50% of the reasons. The other 50% is the environment, diet, stress, etc., and those effects are probably for most people, cumulative and synergistic. Some may get it after one exposure, but generally, I think it is something that builds up and feeds on itself over a lifetime. That is likely why most people get it when older. Someone younger who gets it may be perhaps more genetically susceptible, have had a single severe toxic exposure, and/or may also have increased their susceptibility to disease thru stress, diet, etc. I heard someone explaining it recently that most all diseases have a genetic component (~50%) and an environmental one (~50%). The first half represents the soil we're given for planting (genetics), and the second is the seeds we grow, and how we either do/don't nourish them (environment, etc.). I think it's in the second half where we have the most control, both to prevent it in the first place, and to overcome it. I'm now 34, and have had PD for over eight years, and although it's gradually getting worse, I am still convinced that I will eventually overcome this. I don't take care of myself as well as I should, but I do feel a definite difference when I sleep enough, eat well, exercise, etc. I believe that our bodies can ultimately heal themselves of any disease (we can't regrow limbs, but other than that, I think it's all fair game for healing), given the right tools and environment. Plus, we also have to be ready to be healed. They are researching a drug now on animals which can supposedly regenerate cell growth in pd-like brain cells. If a drug can possibly do this, then I am convinced that I can also find a way to do it without drugs, either thru diet, natural treatments, mental attitude, etc. No treatment will work, however, until you are ready to accept the healing, cuz ultimately it comes from within. This may stir up some controversy (but I like doing that anyway), but recently I've been watching something on TV which fascinates me. There's a show on the Christian Broadcasting Network called "Something Good Tonight (The Hour of Healing)." It's done by Oral Roberts' son Richard (who is president of ORU) and daughter-in-law Lindsay. Let me qualify this by saying I consider myself to be a "New Age" Christian, as I also believe that Buddha, Muhammed, Grandmother Spider, Shakti, Zeus, etc. etc., are all just examples of the endless number of possible "faces" in which an infinite God could choose to reveal himself/herself/it. I personally believe that a God that is truly infinite is by nature beyond any sort of classification that we as humans, with our limited perspective, could give. Anytime you try to describe or label something, you begin to put limits on it, and I don't believe God can be limited, at least not by us. Like the Tao says, "Those who know It, speak of It not. Those who speak of It, know It not." Which basically means that God is beyond ANY description that we could possibly imagine, let alone speak of. God simply IS and must be experienced. I also definitely do not affiliate myself with the ultra-conservative Christians. Having said that, I do find this show fascinating, and I respect them for what they are doing. It's an hourly show, five nights a week, simply about healing (i.e., thru God). I think a ministry based on healing, rather than hell and damnation, is much more positive and closer to what was originally intended. Many of the things they mention, altho' I'm sure they wouldn't necessarily agree with my perspective on this, are similar to that which I've read in much other spiritual and alternative medicine literature. That is, ultimately, healing comes from within you (via God/Creator/Great Spirit). You have many tools at your disposal, but you have to personally be ready to claim your healing. Lindsay Roberts was talking on one show how after when her sister was recently diagnosed with multiple diseases (I think they included fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, and others), she got angry (at the devil), and said very emphatically, "Devil, you can give me all of these symptoms, but you can't make me take this disease!" (I like her spirit - I can definitely relate!). Lindsay went on to talk about how to be healed you have to be ready for it, and how some people actually need their diseases in certain respects, and either don't know how to, or are afraid to claim their own healings. Many of the people who call in mention feeling some sort of energy or white light, and that also seems to be a common theme in healing, no matter one's beliefs. They have a prayerline that you can call into, and I personally believe in the power of prayer, just as I believe when Deepak Chopra talks about putting your intentions and needs out into the quantum "void" and the universe will take care of them (altho' as they say, watch what you wish for...). It's all related to the fact that our mind's do truly create our reality, for better or worse. I'm convinced that one day when I am truly ready, I will be healed of this pd, whether it's helped along by drugs, herbs, prayer, or whatever. The key is tho' is that I have to be ready, and altho' I'm not there yet, I do know basically what I need to do to get there. It's ultimately up to faith, and living your life in a state of complete awareness of who you are and what your purpose is, cuz in that lies your personal power to overcome anything. By this, I'm not saying that I will necessarily be 100% free of pd, but I will move onto a state where the pd is revealed for what it really is, and it will no longer be an issue. It will become merely one part of the Grand Illusion, so to speak, that is life itself. Anyway, I'm going to keep meditating/praying using my favorite mantra, which I feel sums up just about everything, The Secret of the Ages God said with a laugh, Is to always remember When to say, "WTF!" (I don't think the Roberts would agree with that exact sentiment either - but basically I think everyone's saying the same thing regarding healing and living a full life, just in different ways). Wendy Tebay P.S. From what I've seen so far, after watching this show for a couple weeks now, I recommend it to anyone, of any faith, who is interested in the spiritual aspect of healing. I like to see positive teachings of any sort. I figure every perspective has some truth in it. I also higly recommend Deepak Chopra's book, "The Way of the Wizard". For me anyway, reading this book has helped me to move beyond merely knowing about healing, spirituality, life, etc., in a primarily intellectual sense, into truly knowing them thru experiencing them literally. I felt incredibly powerful, yet also humbled, by this knowledge. Everyone, however, comes to this knowledge differently. One just needs to find the way that resonates with them. I don't think the particular way one chooses to go is the issue, but it's important that one choose a way and pursue it. Therein lies the healing. On the healing show they also talk about claiming a "Word of Knowledge" for one's healing and going into "Agreement" with God. How, when you just Know that the time's right and that it's your turn to be healed. No matter one's beliefs, we all have access to this largely untapped source of power. There are definitely some things that one just "knows" sometimes, and hopefully, everyone will have the chance to experience this. Oral Roberts supposedly recently received word from God about large-scale healings to begin taking place everywhere soon, and how there'll be healing "Big Time" (God's words as I understand it). That sounds good to me. I like a cool God like that! ------ =_NextPart_000_01BD98A5.B9D40069 Content-Type: application/ms-tnef Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
