Hi Rick-- at the risk of boring oldtimers who have heard this before, YES,
Mirapex can cause delusional thinking! Last summer Peter had been on it for
a week, and was ready to increase the dose, when he had a terrible paranoid
episode in which he left the house at 2:00 AM, thinking someone was after
him, crawled around outside till I woke an hour later, and missed
him--found him, and he spent 3 days in hospital convinced I was plotting
against him, as were the nurses, etc....really paranoid till the drug got
out of his system. He spent 6 weeks at home recovering, with home health
care. Needless to say, no more Mirapex for him....we believe the problem
arose because his neuro, new to that new med, refused to cut his Sinemet,
and he got "overdosed". He is now on Requip, with a new neuro who is very
cautious and had him cut Sinemet by 1/2...now slowly adding some of it
back. Everyone is different, and Mirapex has been a blessing to some PWps
for sure--but be aware that ANY drug that "messes with the brain" can cause
hallucinations, etc. in susceptible folks...and if you have a problem with
one, you need to be careful of others, too. Good luck! Why not check
out the archives for more Mirapex info?
