How I hate jargon . I have always maintained that it was designed by people who knoe very little but are trying to appear knowledgeable . I have been posting on the list using : dyskinesia = involuntary movement bradyskinesia = slow/impaired movement I believe that everyone else was using these terms in this way . Am I wrong ? It would explain why I am so much out of step with other list menbers . If we cannot even get the language right what hope is there for understanding ? This is in no way a reflection on Judith who continues her excellent task of providing the list with important info . The piece of jargon I have yet to work out is " dopamine agonist ". Here is this articles definition. P&U, Mirapex belongs to a class of compounds called dopamine agonists, which stimulates dopamine receptors in the brain. My dictionary defines " agonist " as " one engaged in the struggle " . Can "dopamine agonist " be used of a substance that boosts the dopamine effect ( Like suppressing the MAO B that destroys the dopamine ) ? Can it be used of a substance that substitutes for/mimics dopamine ? I am far from certain that I am the only person for whom " dopamine agonist " is too vague to have any real meaning ,except that it appears to help the dopamine neural transmission pathways of the brain , in some vague and undefined way . This seems to include all/most PD medication . Please Judith keep presenting all other peoples reports I am a sponge for any info but I find jargon difficult especialy when I cant get a handle on it . > -- > Judith Richards, London, Ontario, Canada > [log in to unmask] > > peace Alastair ( [log in to unmask] )
