Will: I just read your report on your first big fall. Be sure and remember it
so that it is also your last. I am CG for my wife Lola 76/12. Soon after Lola
was diagnosed I was able to retire and we went on a three year Full Timing RV
in a motor home. Now I'll review her falls, and I want you to pay attention.
#1. We were visiting a niece who was looking after several children and using
her garage as a play room. Remember how garages usually had a step down from
the kitchen. Now any one could miss such a step and fall. Lola fell flat on
her face and limped for several days. #2. When we pulled into a camp ground
Lola would get out and help me back in. This time (after having done same for
over a year) she missed the bottom step and went flat on her hips, tummy, face
and nose. Took her to emergency and found a broken rib. #3 While pincking with
the family (that totals 14 for us) Lola miss seeing a log which had been place
to out-line the parking area. My son watched her as she fell and said she just
toppled like a log, so that she hit her knees, hips, tummy, face and nose all
at once. Pretty well knocked herself out. The Ranger came over and he called
for an ambulance who took her into emergency. Amongst other things she broke a
tooth. Now let all of this be a lesson. She has not had a bad fall for the
last couple years, probably because she is mostly in a wheel chair, but she
still will try and walk across the room, when we have told her so often to let
us help her. I know it is so hard to realize that things that you have been
doing day in and day out with no thought, now must be car fully watched by you
and others.
And the real shame with PD is that it sneaks up on you.
