follow up letter # 5 Representative Skeen is a PWP 19 Jun 98 O'Fallon, IL 62269 Dear Representative Skeen, The purpose for our recent visit was to expedite life and money saving research. Although we missed you, we found our experience in your office on Tuesday, June 16 very valuable. We want to say "Thank-you." for the time of your very knowledgeable aid, Mike Kozeliski. He was both informative and helpful. We are asking for your commitment to getting the full $100,000,000.00 in Parkinson's directed research funds as soon as possible. These funds were authorized last year in the Morris K Udall bill. We understand that the NIH is reporting "PD related funds" in its dollar amounts for PD research. This seems to be thwarting the legislative will of the Congress. We were pleasantly surprised to find Mr. Kozliski not at all confused by the difference between "Parkinson's related" funding and real PD research money. Please write to Representative Porter and Senator Specter, asking them to help you rectify the situation. Enclosed please find sample letters (also given to Mr. Kozeliski) with suitable wording. We have told others that your office enjoys a great degree of sophistication about the NIH category of "PD related funds". Your office was PD friendly, understanding the importance of our message. To people with Parkinson's Disease (PWPs), caregivers (CG--families), and the United State's economy, this is no small matter. The ability to produce an income and pay taxes is a privilege we have lost. This debilitating disease robs everyone. Enclosed, please find a gratuitous, 3.5" floppy disc containing an Excel 5.0 application. There is also an explanation of how to use it (In Word 6.0). This is the software I use to make my (PD related) daily function charts. To clarify, a sample chart is enclosed. Our hope is that you will find it easy to use and that it will get you better service from your doctor. It gives him/her a chance to review your daily "movie" rather than just seeing your office visit "snapshot". No one can buy this chart application, but anyone can copy it. I have given similar discs to other PWPs. We intend to send another in a package to Representative Evans. Please let us know if I/we can be of further assistance.
