Everyone, I am overwhelmed by the generosity of Inkshedders. Many thanks to all who responded to my query. Seems to me people are saying--in general--that teaching functions may best be served when a writing centre is unattached to English, but that reearch functions may best be served when it is so attached. Margery and I have to make some kind of case on Friday to the Dean of Arts; I (and probably we) feel now a little less ignorant. Will keep you posted.
