Call for Papers: International Medieval Congress '99
University of Leeds, 12-15 July 1999

Session Title: Teaching Applications for REED Collections

One of the problems facing the scholarly community today is the claim of
"lack of relevance" of primary academic research to the general public,
including the average student in college or university. In order to
challenge such assumptions, one or more organized sessions relating to
the topic "Teaching Applications for REED Collections," will be proposed
for the International Medieval Congress, July 12-15, 1999, University of
Leeds. This session is designed to encourage dialogue among drama
scholars about their teaching methods, ways in which they make REED
materials accessible to students, thereby demonstrating the relevance of
these materials in a variety of contexts and disciplines.

You are invited to submit an abstract for a paper or interactive
presentation demonstrating how you have taught using primary documents
in the Records of Early English Drama (REED) publication series,
materials illustrating the history of drama and entertainment in England
prior to 1642. If you are preparing a paper for the volume Teaching
Applications for REED Collections that I am editing, you are encouraged
to consider proposing it for this session. Interactive presentations
illustrating classroom technique are also welcome.

Please send me the following information (which is required on the Leeds
Organised Session form) via e-mail or regular post no later than 15
September 1998:

1) Title of paper, abstract of no more than 100 words
2) Your name (as it should appear in the program)
