Therese,
        I know your teachers have already recommended some background
readings for you, but I would recommend Norman Cantor's _Medieval Reader_
and John Gassner's _Medieval and Tudor Drama_ if you have not already
read them.   Both are very assessable and have extensive notes.  In the
event you cannot find copies in your local library, let me know as I have
spare copies of both and will be happy to send them on to you.  Good Luck.
