"PARKINSON'S DISEASE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS", the new book mentioned
here by Robert A Hauser and Theresa A Zesiewicz, contains a brief
discussion. Neurotropic factors are very much related to PD. They
are "capable of of increasing neuronal survival, protecting neurons
against injury, and promoting the sprouting of dopaminergic
axons...." They are being investigated for possible use in
preventing or slowing dopamine neuron degeneration.
