hi all this is a 'copy and paste' reproduction of one of Jerry Finch's wwweb pages it describes in detail how any pd list member can take him up on his amazing offer to create web pages for any cyber-sibliing and then connect them to the People With Parkinson's WebRiing when i first read jerry's offer i was struck dumb but not for long! i will 'sweeten' the pot here, as the saying goes, by offering my editing services to anyone who wants them now, go write your story janet janet paterson 51/10 - endocarb/selegiline/fluoxetine - [log in to unmask] pwp event calendar: http://newww.com/cgi-bin/do_cal?c:pwpc a new voice: http://www.newcountry.nu/pd/members/janet/index.htm ------------------------------------ My Very Own Web Page ------------------------------------ What you always wanted to know about having a web page but were too afraid to ask. This is an example of a web page, sometimes called a "homepage," of a parkie I'll call Bubba. Bubba knows nothing about computers or HTML. He understands the need to have a page to be part of the People With Parkinson's WebRing, so he wrote to me and asked what he needed to do. "Give me your story," I told him. "If you want pictures on it, send them to my P.O. Box." When I received them I took exactly what he wrote and made this page for him. ********** My name is Bubba, and I have Parkinson's Disease. For the last 10 years I've slowly been going downhill. I'm 55 years old now, my kids are gone and I live in a mobile home in Pearl, Mississippi. This is a picture of my horse. I can't ride anymore because of my balance problems, but my horse will have a home here for as long as he lives. Fifteen years ago, Scout, that's his name, and my daughter, Sarah, won the Barrel Riding Championship of the South. Scout has a hard time moving around now, just like me. There are a lot of places on the web to learn about Parkinson's. You can go see them if you need medical information. The reason I put this site up is because I want you to hear what I need to say. It's all I can do to get out to feed Scout. I'm taking a Sinemet about every 2 hours now, and I have some real bad "down times." That's when nothing is working for me. No medication is doing it's job. Most of the time, I sit here looking out the window. I live alone because my wife died three years ago. My kids want me to move in with them. I'm not going to because I refuse to leave Scout. He and the people on the Parkinson's List exchange are about my only friends, except for Fred. Fred comes over everyday and fixes something for dinner. Then we talk for a few hours. If you have Parkinson's, you can still have fun. I can beat Fred at checkers seven days a week, but I don't because that would make him mad. I hope there will be a cure for Parkinson's before long. That seems like a stupid thing to say, doesn't it? No one wants to live this way. If you want to write me, send an email to Me and I'll write back. ********** That's all Bubba wanted, just a page of his own to tell about his life with PD. That qualifies as a WebRing site. You can't get more real that that. Nothing "pretty," as someone told me today. It's PD, "warts and all." You don't need to be a writer to tell your story. I'm not an editor. I won't be changing anything around, unless you ask me to. Your web page represents YOU. Be as verbose as you want. Just stick to the meat of the story - your life with PD. That's all you need to know about having a website - in other words, don't be afraid, there's nothing you need to learn. Email me what you want to say. Three paragraphs or three chapters, whatever you want. If you have a picture or two, mail them to me at: Jerry Finch P.O. Box 213 Hitchcock, TX 77563 When I get them, I'll scan them and return the originals to you. How will people find your site? Several ways - you can leave it on my server, so your URL (the web address) will be something like this: http://www.newcountry.nu/pd/personal/bubba.htm (that isn't a real address, so if you click on it you won't find anything there). Or you can get your own place at Tripod.com or any of a number of other places. AOL lets you have space for a homepage. I can't upload it there, you have to get someone else to do it for you. Then I'll advertise the PWP WebRing. People will travel the Ring and see what you wrote. Okay, here's the question: See how simple it is? Now what are you waiting for? It will never get done until you do it. Do it now. Do it to help the other PWPs who are coming behind you. Do it for Bubba, do it for yourself. Do it for the cure. Send your letter to Jerry Finch at [log in to unmask] Oh, you want to see the "code" I'm always talking about? If you are using Netscape (I don't know how to do this with Internet Explorer)click on "View" up there on the top line, then click on "Page Source." What you see is the code to make this page. You don't need to know any of that. It's what I do (and enjoy doing.) Now go write your story.
