A couple of days ago someone, a man, related to the Listserv an incident =
that had happened in a boy's changing room of a gym. He accidentally =
hit a young boy and I remember the ending as "I couldn't tell you who =
sobbed more."
I was deeply moved by this story. I think it hit me quite hard and I =
pushed delete before I had given myself the chance to identify the =
feelings, and before I had the chance to properly respond. It was a =
shared experience which deserved a response. I let it go too soon, and =
as a result I have no name to direct my response to.=20
So, to the man who showed such courage and sensitivity in the relating =
of his story, thank you. I can't get the incident out of my mind. I =
read this today and I thought it appropriate:
"We are the subjects of our own narrative, witnesses to and participants =
in our own experience, and, in no way coincidentally, in the experiences =
of those with whom we have come in contact........" (she goes on to =
speak about the process of writing specifically) And to read imaginative =
literature by and about us is to choose to examine centers of the self, =
and to have the opportunity to compare those centers...." Toni Morrison
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to examine and compare my own =
center with your experience.
