Bill, you are absolutely right, in a "perfect" world it probably would not make much difference how doctors got paid, which is the major difference between HMO, PPO, socialized. or private medicine. BUT when personalities enter into the mix, and bean counters are rewarded for making more money, the patient, who is at the bottom of the funnel, will always suffer in some way. Doctors deserve to be paid well for their services, but patients should not be punished so stockholders can get rich! That's why the government might not be such a bad choice to administer health care, as they don't start worrying about spending money until it is mostly gone, or until taxes cannot be raised enough to compensate.
