As I was sifting through the piles of "stuff" in my son's
room (those with teenage sons will know what I mean), I came
across a past issue of Sports Illustrated (July 13, 1998) with a
cover story on Ali. The article is about his 35 year friendship
with photographer Howard Bingham. It is a very touching story,
and as I was reading it I began to wonder if it could also serve
as a means of publicity about the Udall Act? Sports Illustrated
has a huge readership. Their letters-to-the-editor are VERY short
- some only 1 or 2 sentences; the longest is a paragraph, but
they do sometimes publish a number of letters on the same topic -
this issue had 15 short letters on a Chicago Bulls article. If
enough of us send them letters about Ali, Parkinson's and the
Udall Act, perhaps a number of them will be published together.

The e-mail address for letters is: [log in to unmask]
or snail mail to The Editor, Sports Illustrated, Time & Life
Building, New York, NY 10020-1393 or fax to 212-467-4049. Since
the article appeared a few weeks ago, anyone who is planning to
to write should probably do so within the next few days. What do
you think?

I couldn't find the article online, but there is a short
interview with Bingham on the SI Internet site at:

If anyone wants more details about the article, let me know and
I'll post a short summary. BTW - I thought after the Olympics,
Ali was a spokesperson for the NPF ( might be wrong about this) -
anyone know if he is currently involved?
